Unless you’ve been living under a rock or you don’t know me at all, I’m sure you’ll have heard I’m recently engaged. My best mate and now fiancee, Jake proposed to me in August 2018 whilst on holiday in Mallorca. I cried when he proposed, then I cried in the taxi back to our villa, then I cried when I told my family. Basically I cried A LOT but I’m sure you’ll be glad to know, they were happy tears and his proposal was a moment I will never forget. Being proposed to in Mallorca meant a lot to me as it holds a very special place in my heart, somewhere I have spent my summer holidays since the age of 6 and a place which holds many special memories with the people I love, so he couldn’t have picked a better location.
Since our engagement I’ve turned on full Bridezilla mode. I’ve been dreaming of my wedding day since I was a little girl (cliche, I know) and I love everything about weddings in general; bringing family together, vowing yourselves to one another for the rest of your life and of course the big, fancy party! So, to be able to finally start planning my own wedding is like a dream come true. Jake and I set a date a little while ago but wanted to find the right place fitting our budget, style and family. We have quite a lot of time for planning as we’re only getting married in April 2021 but me being me, a super-planner with spreadsheets galore, I wanted to get our perfect venue booked at least 2 years before we say ‘I do’ to give us time to plan everything else that goes in to your big day. We’d drafted the guest list, set our budget and decided on a style for the wedding so we were able to start shortlisting our venues.
One handy tip for any newly-engaged like myself, sign up to Hitched.co.uk an online wedding planning website with everything you could ever think of. I signed up a few months ago and I’ve already accessed some of it’s features including the guest list and venue shortlist, which is where we found our venue. They also provide you with a to-do list and budget breakdown meaning everything you need to keep track of is in one place. An organised bride-to-be’s paradise!
Now, I’m aware some couples don’t announce their wedding venue until closer to the date but we’re just so impatient that we’ve been telling the world! So, we’ve booked the Foxfields Country Hotel in Billington, Blackburn. Like I said above, we had found this venue on Hitched but this was also suggested to me by my big sis and maid of honour, Rach. I loved this venue from the moment I saw it. Lucky for us they had an open day a few weeks ago so the venue was set out ready for a wedding and I got goosebumps as soon as I walked in; I think instantly Jake and I knew this was the venue we wanted. Our save the date cards are ready to go, I just need to go through my mum’s address book to hunt everyone down! Both Jake and I are so happy we finally have a confirmed venue and date and can’t wait to plan our wedding together.
